Barbara Ashley School of Dance is continuing to closely monitor the situation as it develops and updated advice from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will be acted on promptly. During this period, the safety of our dancers, students and staff is still our utmost priority. Please carefully read our COVID-19 procedures below as per Alert Level 2.
  • We are proud to offer contact-free online registration for everyone's safety and convenience. Please head to the tab 'REGISTER' in the main menu above to complete your registration.

  • Classes now have firm capacity limits. We are accepting student enrollment on a first come first serve basis, which means that once a class has reached its capacity limit, enrollment for that class will no longer be available to the public. However, we will do our best to ensure that each student gets to attend the style class that he or she chooses to take.

  • Competitions are currently at a stand still. Therefore we are not currently offering competition classes for each dance style. What we are doing is continuing our training through Competition Prep classes which are offered Sundays, as noted on the schedule. It is important that if competitions do start up during the dance year and you wish to participate, that you are registered for the Competition Prep class from the start of the year. Whereas these are competition classes, registration is not open to everyone. If you wish to participate please reach out to us at and we will place you in the appropriate class.

  • Students, teachers and parents are to maintain a minimum of 2 metres or 6 feet apart at all times. Our studio has placed markers every two meters, as visible cues to support physical distancing.

  • All individuals must wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth when entering and exiting the facility. (Masks are not mandatory during class time)

  • Students are asked to come dressed for class as there is no changing permitted in the studio. This includes having their hair tied back neatly, to avoid having to fix our touch their hair/head/face as much as possible (ie. bun or french braids)

  • All students are asked to bring their own personal yoga mat to avoid commonly touched surfaces (ie. the floor)

  • Parents/guardians are asked not to remain in the waiting area while classes are in progress as it has been cleared of furniture.

  • Once directed to the classroom there will be clearly labeled 6ft dance spaces assigned to each student that they must dance within. There will be no physical contact with other students or teachers while in class. If using Ballet barres they will be marked with 6ft increments and any moving/travel within the room will be completed within social distancing guidelines.

  • Our public washroom in the main waiting area will be closed whereas it is not monitored. However, our public washroom inside the studio will remain open as it can be monitored and cleaned regularly.

  • We have separate entrance-only and exit-only outdoor doors to the facility as well as separate entrance-only and exit-only indoor doors to the studio which must be used accordingly to promote one-directional traffic.

  • As activities end, individuals should maintain physical distancing when collecting their personal belongings and exiting the building through the exit-only door.

  • Students are encouraged to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before their class time, whereas lingering in the studio for any reason is strongly discouraged. There is no early drop off and parents will not be permitted to accompany students into the building.

  • Staff, volunteers, parents/guardians and participants are required to stay home if they are unwell or symptomatic.

  • Water fountains/stations may not be used. Participants must bring their own water bottles and individuals must not share with other participants. This includes food and snacks.

  • Trash containers have been made available for discarding trash, tissues and any personal protective equipment (e.g. masks and gloves), which may otherwise become a public health hazard.

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be provided and students must sanitize their hands before and after class

  • Studios will be thoroughly cleaned daily and signage will be posted outlining guidelines and social distancing.

  • Attendance will be taken at the start of every class. Contact tracing can be completed if unfortunately necessary.
